CoQ10 (450mg): The mitochondria ingredient

Every egg cell contains thousands of mitochondria. These tiny structures act as the cell's power stations, producing the energy required for maturation, fertilisation and early embryo development.

As women age, mitochondrial function naturally declines. This is one of the reasons CoQ10 has become one of the most widely used supplements in fertility clinics worldwide.

A randomised controlled trial in women with diminished ovarian reserve found that CoQ10 supplementation improved ovarian response, fertilisation rates and embryo quality compared with controls. Other studies have shown benefits for mitochondrial function and ovarian response in women undergoing fertility treatment.

Importantly, methylfolate bypasses the conversion steps required for folic acid. This is particularly relevant because a significant proportion of the population carry MTHFR genetic variants that can reduce the efficiency of folic acid metabolism.

A note on folate: NHS guidance recommends taking folic acid daily while trying to conceive and until 12 weeks of pregnancy. CORE3 intentionally uses methylfolate—the bioavailable 5-MTHF form of folate that does not require the same conversion steps as folic acid.
