Research into fertility and IVF has studied specific nutrients at specific doses. Here are three of the most researched nutrients to know about when preparing for IVF.

1. CoQ10 for IVF

Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10) is one of the most extensively researched supplements in assisted reproduction.

A 2024 systematic review and meta-analysis examined six randomised controlled trials involving 1,529 women with diminished ovarian reserve undergoing IVF/ICSI. Overall, CoQ10 pretreatment was associated with improvements in several outcomes, including the number of oocytes retrieved and clinical pregnancy rate — although the researchers emphasised that larger, higher-quality trials are still needed.

Importantly, fertility research has often investigated CoQ10 at doses far higher than the small amounts found in many standard multivitamins.

That’s why checking the actual milligrams of CoQ10 per daily serving matters — not just whether “CoQ10” appears on the label.

2. Vitamin D Before IVF

Some fertility supplements instead contain methylfolate (5-MTHF), a bioactive form of folate.
